looking ahead to 2010 ? Does anyone have a list of potential 1st round picks on this year's upcoming ohl draft? Looking back at the bantam aaa championships that were held here in ssm there was some top notch talent especially from that Toronto Marlies team which won the championship. Heard that there are as many as 5 players on that particular squad that could be first round selections in the ohl draft. I for one was most impressed by a player named Chris Marchese if the hounds can land him this ohl draft what a find that would be. Potential line-up for next season. Just speculation
Cousins - McCauley - ? ( Marchese )
Catenacci - Desando - Dubchak
Thompson - Cooper - Rachunek
Maclean - Morbeck - Thomas

Archibald - Beukeboom
King  - Mead - Fox - Huh???

O'Hagen
?
We need an upgrade on defense and goaltending. Perhaps our first 2 selections in the draft will focus on high end defenseman and high end
goaltender. Torrie has the option of also moving Carrick another Overage possibility in the off season to upgrade our "D" or goalie situation.

I have a feeling that Lehner might be back next year... Ottawa has Leclair, Elliot and Brodeur already with contracts and NHL experience

I think that we have 2 seconds and a player like Marchese would be a good fit with the first pick, followed by the best D man available, then a high end goalie. We have to get a goalie in the system as I don't think that Orlando is the answer. Hacket will be along in two years and he looks like the real thing, but we have to get a good one into the system whether we have Lehner back or not.

Ya I've been wanting to get out and see Cameron play!
5 shutouts in 25 games looks good but all 5 were against weak Timmins and North Bay teams.
I'd like to see him in tourny play against some tougher opponents.
His GAA is less than great against Sudbury and Nickel City.
Howndawg - have you seen him in tourny play and how he reacts to a real challenge?

Just to follow up on my Cameron Hackett discussion...
Against the top 2 Sudbury he has a 2.71 GAA.
Against the bottom 2 teams (Timmins and North Bay) 0.60 GAA.

Some impressive numbers.  2.71 against the leagues best is impressive.
Now I really want to check him out - I don't think the Thunder are at home again for the regular season.
Hopefully I can catch them in the playoffs.

This kid (Hackett) is cocky and he's good. He can shoot the puck harder than most players with his goal stick. Also to answer MOG, Connor is from Chicago. However the Carricks do have a younger brother in this years draft. I think his name is Trevor but not sure.

Last year at the tryouts we thought that Orlando looked good.  But then what do I know?  We shall see...

I would have to imagine that the 3 20-year olds that return next season would be...

-King
-Cooper
Are VERY likely.

-Carrick and DeSando should battle it out for the last spot - with Carrick as the favorite as we need more depth on the right side than up the middle.

With Shaw a very doubtful returnee.

I would imagine that McCauley and Carroll could be in tough against spots that will need to be opened for one or two 16-years from the coming draft and Chad Thibodeau (with the TBirds)
I doubt MacIntyre returns.
This leaves room for several defense openings..
Volpe and Sproul made good impressions last camp and are likely challengers for those open blue line spots.

Goaltending is really up in the air and dependent on whether Lehner returns or not.
Is Torrie willing to risk the season with Bryce as the starter?  I doubt it.

Can GM Torrie pull more Euro-magic to fill the net?
Will he move or keep Bryce?
Does he draft a goalie high, or bring up Orlando to groom for the future?
Lots of questions surrounding goaltending, if Lehner does not return.
If Robin returns I think you will see a trade for O`Hagan - and bring a youngster in to get some experience.

I would like to see us find a good prospect and take him early in the draft and have him back-up Robin and be ready to take on a bigger roll as a 17-year old.

Should be an interesting off-season.

Carrick is the favourite HOWEVER Desando should be the no brainer! Carrick is basically another concusion from his career being over, Desando is by far our best PKer and brings a tonne of energy ALOT like Brandon MacLean, thats just my opinion

Lehner has signed a 3-year contract Ottawa and will report to Bingo for the remainder of the season.  He won't get sent back to the OHL next season judging by the comments made by Murray (Ottawa GM), unless he really struggles.

I think Carrick will be back next year and not Desando for the loyalty... how do you give an OA spot to a guy who played 20 games here over Carrick who played his entire junior career here, has 20 goal potential and drops the mitts for his teamates.... Cooper and King should be shoe-ins for OA's unless a trade is made.... I think Carrol and Mead have played there last games here and wouldnt be suprised if they went to Owen Sound, they love to pick up our under achievers and give them a shot.... Lehner is 95% gone, and Rachunek has a shot at comming back after he strong play off showing.. but not sure if that is enough to persuade Torrie that he has turned the corner.. I think Maclean could fill in and do the same job if not be an upgrade over him.....

1st line - Cooper, Thompson, McCauley
2nd line - Catenacci, Dubchak, Carrick
3rd line - Cousins, Morbeck,Thomas
4th line - Maclean... and 2 rookies, or possibly Rachunek

1st D - Archibald and King
.... Bekeboom will be on the 2nd D pairing and Fox on the 3rd but not sure who would be paired with them and O'Hagan as the goalie but I would think we are going to make a move for someone to challenge for the starter spot or have it right away...

Carrick finally played like it mattered in the playoffs...Desando played every game all season like it mattered.  I thought they were both fantastic against Plymouth but I prefer the guy who plays every game like it is his last...not the guy who coasted all season.  I love Carrick but if I had to choose, I choose the consistent player on what was an inconsistent team.

hounds could send carrick to brampton to play his overage year with his younger brother. Hounds will be thin on the blueline and in goal so look for them to draft a defenseman or goaltender high in the draft or trade for one or both in the off season. I would expect rachunek back as he is a very hard worker.
