Sault Ste. Marie at Brampton

2:00 PM ET, Sunday, February 7, 2010
Powerade Centre, Brampton, Ontario

Greyhounds-Battalion Preview

GREYHOUNDS (27-21-1-4) at BRAMPTON (18-22-7-5)

Season series:

  • These team met just over 2 weeks ago where the Battalion beat a flat Hound team 4-1.
  • Brampton backup goalie, Jacob Riley, played a great game and almost earned a shutout.
  • Alberga scored 3 points for the Battalion with 2 goals.

Big Story:

  • Cody Hodgson plays in only his 3rd game since returning from a back injury sustained with the Vancouver Canucks in the fall.
  • The Hounds play their 3rd game in under 48 hours - is there any gas left in the tank.
  • Both team come off a road loss last night.

Team Scope:

Greyhounds --

  • Cooper was out last night with a concussion and could miss today's game as well.
  • Lehner will likely get today's start and will have  chance to redeem himself from their last meeting.
  • The Hounds may have to focus on even strength goals since Brampton has a strong penalty kill.

Battalion --

  • Since Hodgson's return the Battalion have won one game and lost one and he has counted 3 assists.
  • Jacob Riley will likely get his first start since the last game against the Hounds.
  • Brampton struggles to score goals but is great offensively. Their powerplay ranks last in the OHL.

Who's Hot --

  • Cody Hodgson has 3 assists on the 5 goals that Brampton has scored since his return.
  • DeSando has counted 1 goal and 5 assists in the last 4 games.

Both Saginaw and Erie are knocking on our door now.  Very important 2 points today.  13 of 14 games after today are intra-conference matchups.

GO HOUNDS!

Remember guys......DON'T PLAY "DOWN"!!! This is an eminently winnable game and we really need the 2 points.

With the attendance stats for Brampton, we should have no problem at all spotting the fan bus crew!

I must have missed something because I don't remember hearing or seeing anything about Cooper getting injured in Sudbury. Details anybody?

Lehner with a stunning 49 saves... Shocked

We were outshot 50-16!  And yet we won!  Regardless, I thought the defence did an exceptional job of keeping the shooting lanes clear and letting Lehner see the puck so well.  Most of the shots came from the outside but he made several key saves from in close.

I'm here at the curling final getting updates on the game from my blackberry.
Looks like Lehner stole this game - about 50 shots! Wow. Thanks Robin!
9 of 12 points on the road is amazing.
Can't wait to welcome the Hounds back to town on Wednesday! Yes

Kitchener picked up 2 points in a SOW against Saginaw who also get a point.  Also Guelph picked up their 2 points.  if anything, we gained an extra point of breathing room over 7th place Saginaw.

All I can say is thank God for Robin Lehner!!! What a performance!! Well deserved first star honours. And Quesnele picking up second star? Cool......but I'm kind of surprised. The Hounds WERE outplayed....badly at times.... but the Battalion couldn't catch a break.

I'm really glad we got the 2 points but it wasn't the kind of game where I'm also thrilled with the effort. Yes, many shots came from the perimeter-but shots are shots and they all have the potential of going in. To be outshot that badly and still get the win?......the guys owe Lehner a steak dinner with all the trimmings!!

Edited to add......that Archie fight was a humdinger!!

Why would you be surprised that Quesnele was the second star?  He played about half the game last night and about the same today.  Was decent in his own end, scored the first goal on a smart play and made some outstanding passes.  I glad to see the guy is finally getting some credit.

Much agreed here...even the Brampton announcers couldn't stop proclaiming what a fantastic game Quesnele was having.  He was very very good today!

A bow in Lehner's general directon. 50 shots and 49 saves is stealing the show most of the time. Great road trip!

Don't misunderstand me. I love Quesnele, thought he had a good game and regularly love to harrass those around us in 103 who don't much care for him. The reason it surprised me is because, while they lost the game, Brampton DID outplay the Hounds and I figured the local media would give their home team more recognition. Simple as that.

Glad to see that Lehner put in a solid game to make up for laying an egg in that last Brampton game. I get nauseous just thinking about that game.
