Name one captain in Greyhounds franchise history who has ever had anywhere near a -43 season in their OHL career. Yeah, I cant think of one either.

So what? If anything, the fact that he improved greatly (and not just his +/-) last season is in the "pro" column of reasons he SHOULD be named captain.

Quote
After a -43 season, you can only go upwards from there right? Just because King fights doesnt make him captain material

Who said it did??? Except that in many of those fights, he was standing up for a teammate....and THAT does make him captain material.

Kingers+/- improved by approx. +40.   Can't recall anyone doing that on the Hounds. Of course - 43 had me looking at the barf bowl but with this kid he clearly exudes leadership. His calm and poise stood out this past year. He's the man. And recently I thought his name and LA Kings Development Camp were used in the same sentence.

As for goal scoring and being named Captain.... in Thompson's case it does mean diddly. He worked his arse off to tally those numbers. His effort set a high standard with his mates and from what I saw he did it in an unselfish manner. He passed the puck when the pass was there. In some cases there is a direct correlation to goal scoring and leadership. Brett did it. His improvement in the goal scoring department set an example to the Dubchaks and others what can happen with hard work! He's a leader on this years addition of the Soo Greyhounds.....be nice to see the Catenacci's, Cousin's, Morbeck's, and others follow his lead and make the same improvement he did last year.

With close observation this team has lots of leadership!!!!This group of Hounds will have some Big League bite......
Looks like the potential to fill the net with pucks is there.....With a little D and netminding......who knows.....I can't wait for this season to start already!!!!!

Fighting has nothing to do with being captain material BUT standing up for your team mates does and this is a role that Dylan does very well.He is the man for the job in my books!!

Captains are supposed to be the link in communication between the referee and the coach. The only time King talks with the ref was when he is being sent into the penatly box. When both teams captains are discussing for instance a reviewed goal, the referees will not be as happy to speak with player like King as they would to speak to a player like Thompson. I think there are referees around the league who's on-ice decisions for many different issues could be based on the reputation of Dylan King. If you were a referee, who would you rather talk with?

DK's reputation with referee's/officials has to be very good. Most are experienced ex-players and they know he is not just a goon looking for a fight.....He fights to protect his teammates regardless of the size of the opponent.....he has thier backs.....I'm sure they see and respect that. and has thier utmost respect....same reasons Hounds fans like him!

Captain material, is someone that will listen and work through issues with the players and take their concerns to management.  He works with the coach as well.  A captain leads on the ice whether it is practice or a game and motivates everyone to give it there all.  There is far more to a captain then just what appears during a game.
King obviously has these attributes as Lambert has said in the past that King works really well with the younger players on off ice issues, etc.
Therefore, he gets my vote.

Seriously, -43. For a defensive d-man with absolutely no offensive skills, how can you go -43 and still be in the league, let alone a captain?

By working hard and turning his game around. By displaying the kind of attitude and dedication to improvement that the kids need to see.

Dylan improved his game to the point that he got an invite to the LA Kings development camp. If he caught their eye enough to earn that, I'd say there MUST be something you don't see....or choose to ignore.

I agree Alex. We are a rather polite group and share our opinions. Better than some sites I have seen.

Kinger - "C"

Tommy-Gun "A"

Rotate the "A" with the rest of the team.

My money is on King for captain, I just think that Thompson is the better choice.

Lots of people were very harsh on Jordan Nolan, who was an actual NHL draft pick of the Kings, not just a camp invitee. Nolan was a lot better hockey player than King, and people nailed him to the cross is whole career in a Greyhound uniform. Maybe there was something the Nolan critics were missing??

Perhaps Denny will surprise us and go with Thompson as the "C". It's not a clear cut choice between the two.  Or perhaps Kinger an overager is traded cause we got 4 hanging around (King, Carrick, Cooper and Desando) and we can only dance with three, however this is the least likely scenario and I wouldn't bet my mule on it!

Can't remember when the Captain is named. After the main camp?

We had Maclean and Dustin Jeffery rotating as Captains a couple years ago, why not again? Personally I would like to see Thompson get it, he's a Soo boy he works his tail off. Also when was the last time we had a kid, with his goal scoring touch, hard work, who can wear the "C" for more than one year... would be nice to see him be the leader of this squad for the next couple years and really become the face off the team.

Intersting thought Old Timer.  Think Kinger would feel snubbed if not chosen after he covered the teams butt repeatedly last year. As good as Thompson was......it seemed Kinger had more presence in the face of adversity and can't help remembering Thompson had nary a goal in the playoffs......Does DK get any love for being just downwind from the Soo? and having a bloodline connection with the team in Jacob King?

Perhaps this year deserves two Captains and bring Thompson back the following year to be our "C".

Wonder what's swirling around in Denny's noggin as this appears to be a very hard choice.

Can't imagine Catenacci not being Captain in two years. It's evident someone's ego is potentially going to get ruffled in the Captain shuffle over the next two seasons. Perhaps the "C" goes to Catenacci this year. Make the young gun our Stevie Yzerman. He finished last years playoffs as our best performer clearly more effective than BT against Plymouth. I like that choice. He is a hard worker, got his nose dirty, embraced the Soo as the number one overall pick when many others snubbed SSM, fought through adversity last year, didn't seem to rock the boat at any point and seemed to be having a break-through at the end of the season. He sets a great example with his work ethic and seems to have the confidence now to handle being the "C". Give it to him now and let him lead us to the promised land. Coupled with scoring the big playoff goal against Plymouth, he seems the most likely to lead us in the future.

Wonder why Montague and Ruicci haven't picked up on this story......must be sleeping through it....this is a tough choice for Denny and the organization.

Perhaps Monty and Peter are out doing the Curly Shuffle.
